On 16th April 2016 a devastating earthquake of magnitude of 7.8 struck near the coast of Ecuador. More than 650 people have lost their lives and many more have been displaced from their homes. There are reports that over 27,000 people were injured. Widespread property damage, including severe damage to infrastructure, has made life very difficult for survivors. Electricity appears to have been restored in most afflicted areas now. One of the two Sathya Sai Schools in Ecuador suffered damage but no injuries were reported.

The Sathya Sai International Organisation (SSIO) Disaster Relief Committee is working with the SSIO of Ecuador to help the victims. The Sri Sathya Sai World Foundation has sent funds recently to Ecuador to support relief activities. SSIO volunteers are distributing food, drinking water, clothes, mattresses and first-aid supplies. SSIO medical professionals are providing emergency medical services and SSIO volunteers are providing temporary shelter and food to the needy.

Please pray to alleviate the pain and suffering of those afflicted by the natural disaster in Ecuador. Sathya Sai devotees wishing to participate in the relief efforts in Ecuador should refer to this document.
